Book Coaching

Book coaching is similar to developmental editing in relation to the areas we will cover, but it involves more support over a longer period of time as well as working on specific goals you’d like to achieve with your writing. Book coaching, unlike developmental editing, can be done at many stages in the writing process. If you have ideas of what you’d like to do with your story, but you’re not quite sure how to implement them, book coaching is a great option. Or, if you’ve completed a developmental edit, but you want more long-term support in the revision process, book coaching is the way to go.

Developmental Editing

I specialize in developmental editing within fantasy and science fiction. Developmental editing focuses on big picture concepts. For fiction, a developmental edit includes analyzing plot, characters, setting, pacing, and dialogue among other aspects. The process starts with a pre-edit chat for us to go over your manuscript and what makes it special. Then, when I work on the developmental edit, I will insert sidebars comments in your manuscript and create an editorial letter that dives into areas you can consider during your revisions to make your story really shine. Finally, we will have a post-edit chat to go over any questions you may have and further brainstorm ideas you could implement with revisions.

Copyediting

Includes checking for spelling, punctuation, capitalization, hyphenation, number style, abbreviations, usage, consistency, pronouns, and querying for clarification. Additionally, I will create a style sheet for your manuscript.

Manuscript Evaluations

Are you looking for feedback on your writing? My manuscript evaluation services include a report with comments on plot, characters, pacing, and setting for fiction. A manuscript evaluation is beneficial to help writers get a sense of what works in their stories and what could use some improvements.

Sensitivity/Authenticity Reading

A sensitivity reader can help to ensure that your writing portrays people of various backgrounds in accurate and inclusive ways. I currently offer sensitivity reading for queer representation (asexual spectrum, pan, and some questioning identities), autistic representation, disability/chronic illness/chronic pain representation, fat representation, mental health representation (anxiety, depression, PTSD, agoraphobia), Greek life representation (sororities), and Hard of Hearing representation.
